1.      Triumph 胜利；凯旋，可以是动词也可以是名词，应该还算比较生僻的词，大家比较熟悉的应该是victory，也是胜利的意思。习惯用法有：

In triumph 胜利的；耀武扬威的；洋洋得意的

The soldiers returned home in triumph. 士兵们胜利归来。

He held up the prize in triumph. 他得意地举起奖品。

 

Triumph over 战胜

Justice will triumph over evil. 正义将战胜邪恶。

 

2. Annual 年度的；每年的   我们通常说得公司年会就可以说成annual dinner

Annual Report  年报

Annual Ceremony 年度庆祝晚会

Annual Performance Review 年度绩效考核

 

3. Include 包括；包含，表示某一个整体里包含了哪些个体。

This special promotion package includes a facial lotion and day & night cream. 这个特别促销装包括一份爽肤水和日霜晚霜。

 

文章里的including是include 变成了ing分词结构，用来修是前面的名词。分词结构的好处就是可以直接修饰或者说明一个词，而不用另起一句，让句子可以写的长一些，丰富一些，而不是总是短句子的堆砌。举例来说：

I have already sent you the name list. It includes Tom, Jerry, Peter and me.

-à I have already sent you the name list, including Tom, Jerry, Peter and me.

我已经把名单发送给你了，其中有Tom, Jerry, Peter和我。

 

4. Achievement 成就；完成，可以用不同的形容词来搭配，表示赞赏。比如

Great achievement 伟大的成就

Brilliant achievement 辉煌的成就

Extraordinary achievement 非凡的成就

取得成就通常可以说成 make an achievement

 

5. Make all the more remarkable（比所有的更卓越） 简单来看就是 most remarkable的意思，只是外国人写得比较花哨一些，当然这也是值得学习的，可以让你的写法更地道。

 

6. Hope 希望；期望

Hope通常表示希望一些可能性较大的事情发生，通常的用法是接一个that引导的从句。例如：

I hope that we can gather together every year. 我希望我们能够每年都相聚。

Hope通常不接to do…  比如，不可以说：I hope to open my own juice bar someday. 而应该说 I hope that I may open my own juice bar someday. 我希望有朝一日能够开一个自己的果汁吧。

再来说几个习惯用法:

Lay/set/pin one’s hope in/on… 寄希望于…

Give up all hope 放弃一切希望

In the hope of… 希望能…

 

还有一些意思比较相近的词，比如wish, expectation。

Wish的话，通常表示祝福祝愿，wish you happy new year; wish you good luck;

但是wish 也可以用来表示虚拟语气（较高级的语法），表示尽管不可能发生，但是还是很希望，比如说：

I wish the disaster would never happen again. 我希望灾难再也不要发生（但是有些事情是不可避免的），这个时候就不能用hope 了。

The king wishes that he would live forever. 国王希望他能够长生不老。（这是不可能的）

 

Expectation 则更多用来表示期待；期盼，是对事件结果的预期。例如：

Stop the war and retreat the army is the public’s expectation. 停止战争并撤回军队是民众的期待。

Your performance does not meet the management’s expectation. 你的表现没有达到管理层的期待。

 

7. Nominate 任命；提名；推荐，通常的用法有：

Nominate somebody as…任命某人为…

Nominate somebody for…提名某人为…的候选人

 

He was nominated as the chairman of the Ministry of Finance. 他被任命为财政部部长。

Crouched Tiger and Hidden Dragon is the first Chinese movie nominated for Oscar. 卧虎藏龙是第一部获得奥斯卡提名的中国影片。

 

8. Exciting 是一个常用词，也非常简单，表示令人兴奋的，令人鼓舞的。但是还是想要唠叨一句，exciting是用来形容某样事物的，excited是用来表示人的心情，不可以混乱使用的，举例说明：

Snorkeling in the sea is a very exciting activity. 在海里浮潜是一项令人十分兴奋的活动。

We will go to play snorkeling tomorrow, I’m very excited. 我们明天去浮潜，我觉得好兴奋啊！

 

9. Emotional是emotion的形容词。先来说一说emotion，情感；感情，通常是比较强烈的。Feeling也是感情；感觉的意思，但相对来说比较弱。

Emotion的反义词就可以是 reason 理智  Reason prevailed over emotion.理智战胜了情感。

Emotional 感动人的；容易激起情感的或者是表示容易激动的，情感波动比较大的性格。

She is very sensitive and emotional. 她既敏感又容易激动。

Cape No.7 is an emotional movie. 海角7号是部感人的电影。

 

10. Occasion 场合； (重要的) 时刻；时机

You can build up the relationship network in the social occasions. 你可以在社交场合建立你的关系网。

 

Take occasion to do… 抓住时机做…

 

11. Disappoint 使…失望， 通常的用法有 be disappointed in/of

I’m very disappointed of your decision. 我对你的决定很失望。

We are disappointed in your performance. 我们对你的表现很失望。

 

12. Burst 爆炸；爆裂；冲破；突然发生/发作，通常需要搭配不同的介词来使用，比如：

He burst with anger when he found out the truth. 当他发现真相后勃然大怒。

She burst into tears when the sad news finally came. 当噩耗最终传来后她失声痛哭。

He burst into the room, trying to catch thief. 他突然闯进房间，试图抓住小偷。

He burst out when he was attacked in the darkness. 在黑暗中被袭后他大声呼叫。

 

13. On behalf of 代表… 是比较常用的词组，后面跟需要被代表的人或物

I will give a speech on behalf of the minority shareholders in the shareholders’ meeting. 我会在股东大会上代表少数股东发言。

 

14. Accidental 意外的；偶然的；无意的

Accidental death 意外死亡

Accidental force 不可抗力

 

Accident 是它的名字形式，表示意外事件；横祸

He was injured in a traffic accident this morning. 他在今天早上的交通意外中受伤了。

 

15. Release 释放；赦免；发表；发布；放弃， 这个词的意思很多，用途也非常广泛。

He was early released from the prison for his good behavior. 他因表现良好而被提前释放。

 

People there believe God will release them from their suffering. 那里的人们相信上帝会免除他们的痛苦。

 

This new movie will be released on 30 March 2009. 这部新电影将在2009年3月30日上映。
